The right pair of sneakers
The most important thing you need for Jazzercise is a good pair of sneakers. They can literally make or break you. A good pair of aerobic shoes should always provide two things; good stability to accommodate lateral movements and cushioning to absorb impact.
Here are some tips:
● Try on many brands and styles of athletic shoes before you make your purchase.
● Tell the salesperson you are “just looking” so you don’t feel pushed into buying.
● Wear the type of socks you workout in when you shop for workout shoes.
● Shop for shoes at the approximate time you have class.
● Jump around and do some Jazzercise moves, then walk around the store in the shoes for a while so you can get a feel for the shoes. Are the shoes comfortable? Do your feet tingle or fall asleep?
● Hold the shoe at the heel and toe and start twisting. The forefoot should bend with light resistance.
● Look for a sufficiently wide, firm heel to ensure ankle stability.
● Determine the composition of the “upper.” Leather, canvas, nylon or what? Firm leather will add greater support and durability to the shoe. Newer materials are lighter, breathe better and are equally or more durable.
● Make sure that the sole of the shoe compresses with pressure. Many manufacturers use “air”, “gels” and other methods to increase the impact-absorption properties of the shoes. Each has its own benefits.
● The sock liner should make the shoe feel comfortable, but it contributes little to absorbing impact. You can remove the sock liner and replace it with your own orthotic device or another sole for more impact absorption.
● Many good shoes are available in a moderate price range; you may not need the most expensive shoe, but the cheapest shoe may not offer adequate support or shock absorption.
● Proper cushioning is especially important for people with high arches and non-flexible feet, however, too much cushioning is not appropriate for people with flat or flexible feet.
● Overweight individuals may need a heavier shoe for added support and cushioning.
● If you Jazzercise 3 times/week, you’ll need shoes approximately every 4-6 month; sooner if you wear them to and from class or for other activities.
● If you are overweight or workout on a hard floor, you may need shoes more frequently.
● Buy your new athletic shoes before your old ones wear out, and alternate them during the transition period. You’ll be better able to determine when your old ones are “dead” and allow your feet to adjust slowly to your new ones.
● Wear your exercise shoes only when you are in class. Don’t wear them to and from class as dirt, oil and grime will break down your shoes very quickly.
● Take out the linings and let them air dry.
Remember, shoes are protective gear - so choose wisely.

Jazzercise Fitness Center of Wall Etiquette, Information and Reminders:
With the amount of people we have in and out of the center every day/week, we do our best to stay on top of everything. We ask for your support and cooperation on some things, however, to keep the center looking as nicely as it can while also being courteous to others:
● Please be courteous of your fellow Jazzercisers and do not walk into the center if there is another class currently in progress as it's very distracting to those in class. Please either wait outside the door, under the overhang near the main parking lot or in your car.
● Now that the cold weather is upon us we ask that everyone use the coat racks to hang up your coats and jackets. It would be great if you would also hang up your purses, bags and mats. There are 8 hooks on each rack so please be sure you use all of them. (There are enough for 56 coats) We really need to limit the amount of things we have on the floor as it causes a tripping hazard that could very easily lead to someone getting hurt; even a sleeve from a jacket that’s dangling could cause someone to trip; that's why it's so important to hang up your items.
● For days when it’s snowy and icy outside, we ask that you do not walk across the floor in wet shoes/sneakers as that too poses a dangerous situation. Please leave your wet shoes and umbrellas at the door. We’ll have boot trays out near the door for your convenience.
● Please know that the center is swept/vacuumed twice each day and cleaned from top to bottom (including mopping the floors, cleaning the bathrooms, babysitting room, etc...) at least once each week, often, more times than that.
● Please take your trash with you when leave class (water bottles, wrappers, etc...)
● Please wipe your feet on the mats that are outside the front door as well as on the one that is immediately inside the door as opposed to just stepping on or over the mats.
● Some of us are tracking dirt, pebble,s stones and even tar into the center on our sneakers. Tar is extremely hard, it not impossible, to remove from the floor which is why we ask everyone to take care when entering the center. And, if you do track something in with you, please let us know as soon as possible as it's much easier to clean some of these things as soon as we're aware of them.
● If you happen to spill a bit or water, or if your water bottle creates a condensation ring on the floor or the black floor molding, please wipe it up afterwards as having water on the floor creates a dangerous situation. If you don't have something to wipe up the water with please let us know.
● The walls in the center get marked and banged up VERY easily. There are marks from shoe prints, the handles on rolling bags, etc... both on the walls and on some of the doors. We also have a few areas where the walls have been gouged as well. Please therefore, be cognizant of your belongings, kicking the walls during class, bumping into the walls, etc....
● Please do not use the registration desk or window sills as a ledge when putting on and tying your sneakers or put your feet against the walls.
● Please do not keep your weights and/or water on the registration desk during class.
